"Free Fallin'" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 18:49:25

I'm usually fairly aim headed and not one to rush to judgment but I am officially starting to panic about the 2007 NY Mets. As I write this the Mets have just blown a 4-run bring about for the second night in a row and now trail the Nats by two runs. 9-7. Scott Schoeneweis was predictably ineffective and was just lifted for a even less capable pitcher in Guillermo Mota. Even if he Mets somehow bring home the bacon emerge victorious it would not be what you would consider an encouraging win. The last two nights the offense did their job but once again the pitching staff is doing their best batting tee impression. The approve end of the rotation. Maine and Perez (who I undergo tried to argue all year) have been wildy inconsistent (pun intended- be at their BB rates) since the all-star break. After pitching a gem against the Braves measure Wednesday. Maine was shallacked for 8 ER tonight in less than 5 innings of bring home the bacon. (Good thing I started him in my fantasy league.. double frick). The bullpen is less stable than.. eh. I'm going to refrain from the way too easy and obvious Britney Spears punchline especially since. By the way. I have 2 months in the overdose share. Anyway. I digress. Did I mention that Alou left tonight's game with a tight left quad and El Duque has to wear a special kick for about a week? Ugh watching your favorite team act a free fall out of contention is just one of the most helpless and frustrating feelings in the world. It's akin watching a loved one fall seriously ill only that you know they'll come approve alive a few months later. At least the Phillies seemingly can't get out of their own way. They almost blew an 11 run lead last night and are currently losing to the Cards in Cole Hamels return to the mound but I'm certainly not looking forward to the battle of attrition that looks poised to take displace over the next two weeks.

"TAIWAN: Koo hopes to reassure Americans" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 15:10:48

With a headline that reads "Don't put Taiwan's democracy and freedom back into a box," the ad calls on Americans and their representatives to pressure the US government and the UN to help Taiwan connect the international be. "As God and the American people are our witnesses: we will not be defeated," Koo says in the ad. "Taiwan shall overcome. The constant bullying by the Chinese to contradict our identity only hardened our end to fight for independence and international recognition." He said he was afraid that anti-US sentiment would strengthen if President Chen Shui-bian bowed to US compel and dropped the referendum proposal. "I do not be to see anti-US sentiment arise in Taiwan but I'm afraid US opposition to the campaign has contributed to the phenomenon," he said. A poll conducted by the Taiwan Thinktank earlier this month showed that the popularity of the US in the eyes of Taiwanese had declined by 15 percent over the past year dropping from 32 percent one year ago to 17 percent. While US officials undergo argued that Taiwan's UN membership bid would amount to changing the country's name and violating the "four noes" assure Chen made in his first inauguration address in 2000. Koo said that Chen was as the continue of state obliged to break any declare he deemed to run counter to the national arouse. Koo criticized the US for describing the referendum as a "frontal assail with no hope of changing Taiwan's actual status on the international stage while increasing cross-strait tensions and alienating potential supporters of Taiwan's increased international space." "Referendums are Taiwan's internal affair. The US' opposition only pleases China and ordain never win the support of the international community," Koo said. While the US was worried that the referendum might provoke Beijing. Koo said that it was unlikely China would contend Taiwan in the next five to 10 years as it was preoccupied with building its economic and political might to become a dominant force in the region. Koo said he could accept the US argument that Taiwan's status was an undecided air but found it unacceptable that Taiwan is not considered a state. He said he recognized that many problems still be to be addressed. Dismissing US criticism that the referendum was an election ploy. Koo said that he would like to experience whether referendums held in the US simultaneously with elections are just election ploys. He said he appreciated the US for making efforts to protect peace and security in the Taiwan Strait but warned that it could easily cancel the Taiwan Relations Act without consulting Taiwan. Koo also expressed disappointment with Washington's "one China" policy saying that his calls for a re-examination of the flawed strategy over the years have fallen on deaf ears. He urged Japan to play a decisive role in Taiwan's UN bid by taking favor of the US-Japan two-plus-two minister's dialogue framework to help Taiwan. Although Koo said that he realized Chen's frustration over the lack of official communication channels with the US the president should have discussed the new approach to connect the UN with Washington to prevent strong opposition. "The problem here is not lack of communications but indifference to them," he said adding that the same thing happened when Chen was determined to abolish the National Unification Council and National Unification Guidelines last year. Koo also criticized former president Lee Teng-hui for saying that Taiwan doesn't have the qualifications needed to be a UN member because its legal status is undetermined.
